Zackayo (Lazarus) and brother Jackson (John), have been preparing for months to be baptized during Easter Vigil Service. Every Saturday and Sunday were dedicated for by them for this sacrament. Kathy wanted to bring these orphaned boys from a dangerous area and a complicated family situation, so I found them a small house in matope (mud) village located just across my street and she has been paying for the rent. Rich began sponsoring Jackson as a metal work student at my school in January of 2020. I began sponsoring Zakayo for Catering in 2021. They have adjusted well to the area and to school. They hustle for any job they can find to earn a few shillings to help pay for some of their basic needs. The school staff and administration soon became impressed with their efforts. I have gotten to know them both quite well, they frequent my house and know they are welcome at any time. They now read the bible, know the rosary and attend regular mass. We are very proud of their accomplishments and am confident that once they graduate, they will obtain a job and excel. I told them that I wanted to have a celebration in honor of their baptism and so it was. Jackson requested the presence of Mama Kathy and Rich so that we could have a family photo for his remembrance. This boy can melt your heart at how appreciative he is for all that has been done for him and his family. All but two of his family members (my nine adopted sons) were present. The laughter, stories shared, the food, gifts and of course photo after photo after photo never ended. When the last one left, everything was cleaned and put back in its place and as usual not a morsel of food remaining. I love these family holidays which have become tradition for us now!
