All scrap metal will be recycled by Friedland Industries, a local scrap metal processor in Lansing. Proceeds from the sale of the scrap metal are used for energy efficiency improvements for the church and school.
The St. Michael Earth Care Team hosts a Scrap Metal Drive each April. Items that are comprised mostly of scrap metal may be recycled. See the lists below of what is and is not acceptable for donation. Would you like to help with the drive? Would you like to join the Earth Care Team? - Appliance compressors or capacitors
- Asbestos containing materials or radioactive material
- Compressors/freon tanks
- Compressed gas cylinders and whole propane tanks
- Concrete
- Electrical devices containing PCBs such as transformers, ballasts, capacitors, and light bulbs
- Household trash (carpet, garbage, wood, etc.)
- Metal barrels, drums, paint cans, etc. that contain petroleum based or hazardous liquids
- Refrigerators, dehumidifiers, or air conditioning units
- Steel cable, unless cut into pieces of length 2 ft or smaller
- Styrofoam
- Tires
- Transformers or mercury switches
- Large whole gas tanks
- Whole fuel oil tanks
- Wood
- Wire fencing, unless cut into 3' x 3' square sections or 12" or less diameter rolls
- Any type of spray cans
- Machinery containing hydraulic fluids, oils, and coolants
